Dragstrip Band Bio

Dragstrip started in 1992 playing at the bluebird in Bloomington Indiana, on Monday nights. The group evolved from Go Mango featuring Frankie Camaro (Big Guitars from Texas Grammy Nominee. click here for frankie bio), Kenny Childers (The Prom), and Thomas Matthew (who now lives in San Fran.). Bob Spelberg did the drumming that summer. Frankie always sprinkled the set with choice surf and garage tunes. Frankie has played surf/punk since the Agent Orange days.

In 1994, Frankie created the first full blown Dragstrip, with Frankie (guitar, vox), Thomas Matthew (drums), Liz Mordarski (Bass), and Ryan Hassan (guitar). This formulation of the band strove to link the cool sounds of the garage/surf 60's with an up-to-date punk attitude. The band even played 3 shows in one 24 hour period, and saved up the money for a demo. The demo made it's way to Shredder Records, and a record deal. It was a great line-up. But alas, there were a few conflicts and only Frankie and Thomas stayed on. Tim Homey joined up, and the band finished the Reaction Time CD. Reaction Time got great reviews, and Dragstrip's cover of Don't Fear the Reaper was a smash on College Radio, hitting the top ten in LA, San Francisco, and New York. It was so successful that Shredder released Don't Fear the Reaper with Sun Ra as a single. Dragstrip has opened for Dick Dale, Southern Culture, Deadbolt and Nashville Pussy.

Now Dragstrip is working on a new CD. Jake Petroff is on the Bass, and Chris Duggan is on the drums. Tentative tiltles for the CD are: At the Sound of Speed, the Kokomo Hum, or The Indianapolis 501. Check back to listen to new songs and give us some feedback. Really loud feedback.
